Gul'Dan Harbinger Short

The sixth expansion to Blizzard Entertainment's behemoth World of Warcraft is now just a month away from its release, and with the release of Legion's first short, Harbingers, Blizzard's marketing machine is now in full swing. Coming in at around six and a half minutes, Harbingers - Gul'dan is the first of three shorts leading up to Legion's launch.

In the short, the viewer discovers how Gul'dan became who he was, where he came from (although we don't get a name), and his reasoning for using his new-found powers. Overall, it serves as an explanation and an effective lure for those interested in learning more about Gul'Dan's story.

Harbingers is an exciting series of animated shorts bringing to life the tales of several key figures in the lead-up to the Burning Legion's invasion.

The aforementioned "key figures" include Khadgar and Illidan, both of whom could definitely use reintroducing and explaining to a wider audience before Legion's launch. However, if one is interested in how Illidan fits with the overall story Legion, the William King's novel is a great place to start and a good read in general.

World of Warcraft: Legion will launch on August 30th.

Quick Take

Say what you will about the game itself, but like last expansion pack's Lords of War shorts, Harbingers looks to be both an educational and beautiful series of animated shorts for those interested in Warcraft's lore. As someone who has been playing Warcraft since the late 90's, Harbingers is a great motivator to dive back into World of Warcraft and get ready for the next expansion... as intended no doubt. Shame on me, I guess, but right now is as good time as any to get excited for Warcraft again.

What did you think of the short? Are you excited for the other shorts and for the expansion pack? Let us know in the comments!
