Halo 5: Guardians' popular Forge mode, which allows players to create their own maps and modes, is coming to systems running Windows 10.

This news was announced yesterday by Halo 5: Guardians' official Twitter account:

In a news post on Halo Waypoint, a central information hub for all things Halo-related, developer 343 Industries explains what creators can expect once the tool drops on Windows 10. The Forge mode was first introduced in Halo 3 and added the ability for players to create and edit maps to their heart's content, allowing them to use the tool to create a wide variety of custom content, from custom maps to completely new game modes.

When Forge was redesigned from the ground up for Halo 5: Guardians on the Xbox One, it opened the door to even more inventive community-created content, pushing the boundaries even further to give players more power and control than ever before, and removing barriers to allow for the creation of incredible, high quality maps.

The creation tool, which has never been released on PC before, will be available to prospective creators at some point this year and will be completely free of charge.

Halo 5: Guardians' Forge will include a few PC-exclusive features that take full advantage of the PC's capabilities. Creators will be able to use the mouse and keyboard for enhanced precision control over their creations. Creators who own an HD monitor will also be able to use the Forge in resolutions exceeding 1080, with 4K being the maximum resolution supported.

Another exciting new feature is that you will be able to get your friends to help you build the map and you can test your creations with your friends on Windows 10. You will also be able to release your maps created on Windows 10 to the Xbox One. Note that you won't be able to take advantage of matchmaking features on PC. You can only build, export and play your creations with your friends on PC.

The news post also teased new updates coming to the Halo 5: Guardians' Forge experience in the coming months like new environments, "advanced file sharing capabilities" and new assets.

Quick Take

It might not be the full Halo experience players have been asking for, but at least it's better than nothing!

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
