When GWENT was introduced as a minigame in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it was just a small extra CD Projekt RED added to the game. Surprisingly enough, many players (including yours truly) took to it in a big way, causing many fans to request a standalone and more fleshed-out version of the collectible card game. More than happy to oblige their fans in their request, CDPR quickly started working on a version of the game that was less of an afterthought. Fast forward a couple of months and GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is etching forever closer to the launch of the free to play collectible card game.
The closed beta has been going on for a while now, but CDPR is still accepting new registrations until the coming weekend.
Throughout Closed Beta, we’ve reworked and added a huge amount of features and mechanics to GWENT. Balance changes, numerous tweaks of how cards work and how the game flows; additional cards, a new faction and ranked play — it was an amazing ride and GWENT’s community was with us all the way.So, after spending a good long while in closed beta, GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is now gearing up for the open beta that precedes the official launch of the game later this year.Benjamin Lee, Development Director at CD PROJEKT RED.
