GWENT: Thronebreaker, the upcoming single-player campaign for CD PROJEKT RED's digital card game GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, has been delayed to 2018 according to a news post on the game's official website.

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game has been in open beta since May of this year, although a few lucky players had a chance to try their hand at the game in late 2016. The game has an entirely multiplayer focus, but that's intended to change with the introduction of the single-player campaign GWENT Thronebreaker. Unfortunately, it seems that the release of the campaign is going to be delayed until some time in 2018 according to a letter from CD PROJEKT RED Co-Founder Marcin Iwiński on the game's website.

There's good news and bad news when it comes to GWENT Thronebreaker. The bad news is that card game aficionados will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the single-player portion of the game. The good news is in the reason for the delay: CDPR is looking to increase the scope of the campaign beyond their original plans, and this increase in scope means that they'll need more development time to work on the game.

In other good news for GWENT fans, CDPR has decided to increase the frequency of multiplayer updates while they work on developing GWENT: Thronebreaker further into 2018. Players can expect more frequent content additions like cards, challenges, and vanity items as well as game patches & balance changes over the coming weeks. As for the core game itself, the developers are shooting to get it out of beta and into full release sometime in 2018.

The developers have apologized for dashing the hopes of players who had wanted to play Thronebreaker over the holidays, but they've also said that they'll "never hesitate" to delay a game if it means players will get a better product in the end. GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and GWENT: Thronebreaker will be available in all of their glory sometime in 2018.

What do you think of GWENT Thronebreaker being delayed until 2018? Do you think the increased update frequency until then is enough to tide players over? Let us know in the comments below!
