Guild Wars 2

ArenaNet has released their Guild Wars 2 roadmap for this fall, which includes information on DirectX11 implementation (finally) and the in-game World vs. World Alliances server restructuring. Other info that's been released is another look at Guild Wars 2's third expansion, End of Dragons, which is releasing in February 2022. In it, players will now be able to fish and go on skiff cruises with up to four friends. Together you'll all be able to explore Guild Wars 2's waterways. Sounds pretty fishy, eh?

If you'd like to see the skiffs and fishing mechanics in action, check it out below:

What's in the Guild Wars 2 Roadmap?

The aforementioned DirectX11 implementation will enter beta testing on September 21, 2021. Players will be able to opt-in via the in-game options menu and report and issues and feedback via the Guild Wars 2 forums

Later that month, there will also be a World Vs. World Alliances (WvW) week-long beta. Players will be testing the new server infrastructure and the WvW process. What's different compared to the WvW system in-game right now is that with the Alliances (a player-made collection of guilds) it's supposed to be a more balanced experience overall. Here's the full explanation:

World Restructuring (also known as Alliances) is a feature that aims to deliver a more balanced World vs. World experience by dynamically creating matchups using WvW-designated guilds, alliances (a player-made collection of guilds), and active WvW players as the inputs. This is in comparison to the current system that relies on worlds and world linking. The system will give us more flexibility and granularity when creating new matches and help address natural fluctuations in population over time. It’ll also give players more agency in choosing who they want to play with on an ongoing basis.

As for other cool things in Guild Wars 2, in the nine years the game has been released there have been 16 million Guild Wars 2 accounts, which is impressive. From those players, there has been 190,000,000 hours (more than 21,000 years) of playtime and over 12,000,000,000 achievement points in a game that's had 99.9% server uptime. Not too shabby.
