The Grounded Into the Wood Update has arrived, adding three new areas, Resource Survey Stations, 11 new bugs, and more to the open-world crafting game from Obsidian Entertainment.

Grounded is a game where you and your friends are shrunk down to the size of bugs and plopped down into a backyard. Over the last year and change, it's added new creatures and new building pieces every few months -- that is, until Obsidian announced a shift in strategy towards making larger, more "meaningful" updates. Now, one of these larger updates has finally arrived -- it's time to head into the wood.

What's New in the Grounded Into the Wood Update?

The big-ticket addition for the Grounded Into the Wood Update is three new areas to explore. While more content is always good, Obsidian Entertainment cautions players that these areas are still in development and may be a bit rough. These new areas will be supplemented by the addition of 11 new bugs to the game including scarabs, ladybugs, and termites.

Here are the new areas added into the game:

  • BBQ Spill - Get ready for this sizzling hot area as you prepare to journey through the ashy wastelands of the BBQ Spill.
  • Shed Surroundings - Filled with plenty of items to explore and new creatures to encounter, we know you'll find plenty to do in this exciting new area.
  • Wood Pile - Traverse into the depths of woodpile, but beware, because as you lumber deeper down the halls you will quickly realize you are not alone.

Another neat addition is the new Resource Survey Stations feature. Resource Survey Stations will allow you to find specific resources on the map without having to run around looking for them. You can find the nearest Resource Survey Station by heading over to any Field Station and opening your map.

Several other quality-of-life features have been added, too. Players can now craft multiple items and quickly store items they've crafted as part of an effort to reduce the grindy busywork of the game.

Mind, these are just some of the bigger additions -- a bunch of other cool new content has been added in this update. You can read about all of the changes in the full Grounded Into the Wood Update patch notes. If you haven't yet jumped into this game, you can buy Grounded for PC and consoles via its official website at the price of $29.99 or your regional equivalent.
