Codemaster's Grid reboot was announced earlier this year and targeted a September release, but it appears that some more time in the pit stop has turned out to be needed. The newly announced Grid delay means it won't release until October 11th, almost a month after the previously announced release date.

In their blog post, Codemasters says the reason for the change in release date is to give added exposure to the Grid reboot as they were happy with the reception the game received at E3, where they won multiple awards. The Grid delay doesn't change the fact that the game will be available three days earlier for ultimate edition purchasers - meaning they will get access to Grid on October 8th.

For those who aren't familiar, Grid is a reboot of one of Codemasters racing series and it promises the ability to choose your own path in each race. The game features a nemesis system, that if you run into a racer too many times they will become your nemesis and work to exact their revenge during the race. Your racing is tracked by the racecraft meter which notes your tendencies, performance and is linked to your progression in the game. The aim overall is to create an intense racing action over four continents in some of the world's most famous cities and race circuits with a variety of race types like circuit, street racing, ovals and more. Unlike some recent racing games, all single player modes in Grid are playable offline, while multiplayer features up to 16 player races and includes an event creator to make public or private races.

Recently, Codemasters revealed that all cars and events are split into seven classes. While there is still a lack of detail on some here is what they have released, including the first 12 cars that were announced:

  • Touring: Audi RS 3 LMS, Ford Focus TC-2, Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR
  • Tuner: Auto Gallery Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32)
  • Stock: Chevrolet Camaro SSX Concept (Ultimate edition exclusive), Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Modified, Dodge Challenger SRT Modified, Ford Mustang Mach 1 Modified, Pontiac Firebird Modified (Ultimate edition exclusive)
  • GT: Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, Ferrari 488 GTE, Porsche 911 RSR
  • Formula J was explained to be an open-wheel, single seater racing format with more information coming soon
  • Prototypes
  • Group 7 Specials

That all brings more information on the Grid delay and what this reboot will bring when it releases on October 11th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
