If you're a strategy fan and you've been waiting for the upcoming The Great War: Western Front release date to be announced, then you're in luck. The World War I-set RTS will arrive on PC on March 30th, and you'll get the chance to experience it via a demo at the Steam Next Fest next week.

Per a Steam announcement, if you pre-order The Great War: Western Front, you'll get the chance to play it three days early. In addition, there's a special Victory Edition up for grabs that includes a "detailed digital field guide" for extra intel, as well as a wallpaper pack and a copy of the original soundtrack. You can check out the official pre-order trailer for The Great War: Western Front here.

Petroglyph's game will offer a mixture of on-the-ground RTS gameplay and grand strategy masterminding. You'll take control of your troops on the field, guiding them through battles and having a permanent impact on the battlefields on which you're fighting. After this, you'll switch to the role of Theater Commander, where you'll make large-scale decisions that will affect the outcome of the war.

As well as the core campaign, which will allow you to play as both sides of the Great War, you can also enjoy the "Historical Battles" mode, which lets you relive key battles throughout history interspersed with footage from the archives of the Imperial War Museum. This being an RTS, you can also, of course, head into the multiplayer mode and test your mettle against fellow commanders online.

The Great War: Western Front lands on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 30th, with early access available from March 27th if you pre-order the game. During next week's Steam Next Fest, a demo will be available on Steam, so you can try out this RTS and see if it's the game for you. The demo will let you play through part of the tutorial and campaign, as well as a single Historical Battle in the form of Passchendaele.
