Gran Turismo 6 will be ending its online services in March of 2018 according to a news post on the game's official website.

The PlayStation 3 exclusive Gran Turismo 6 was first released in early December 2013. It is notable for being the first video game to contain content certified by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, the international authority for worldwide motorsports. It generally did well on release, boasting an 81 Metascore and 8.0 User Score on Metacritic.

The online services for Gran Turismo 6 will be coming to a close early next year in two waves. On January 31, 2018, the distribution of downloadable content for the game will cease entirely. Then, on March 28, 2018, all other online services will come to an end. The GT6 Track Path Editor on iOS and Android will also cease functionality on this day. The Community, Open Lobby, Quick Match, and Seasonal Events will no longer be active after this date. The offline portions of the game will continue to function as normal.

Gamers who have purchased in-game credits are cautioned to redeem them before the end of online services so that they will have them available in-game after the servers go dark. Credit redemption can be undertaken by going to My Home, then the GT Store, and selecting "Purchased Content". It will no longer be possible to install or redeem in-game credits after the closure of online services, although players will be able to re-download and re-install previously redeemed credits through the Download List in the PlayStation Store.

Gran Turismo 6 has since been supplanted by Gran Turismo Sport, the latest (and oft-delayed) game in the racing franchise that released in October of this year. While some GT6 players may be sad at the ending of online services, they were nonetheless able to enjoy a solid three years and change of online racing fun.

What do you think of the end of online services for Gran Turismo 6? Do you think Polyphony Digital and Sony Computer Entertainment should have kept the last game running for a little while longer? What do you think of games losing online services? Let us know in the comments below!
