I'm usually not particularly excited by game trailers or press releases but I must say that all changed when I saw Grabbles. Described as a mix between Spider-man, Super Meat Boy and Samarai Gunn, Grabbles brings a new kind of innovation to the 2D platformer genre.
Not only does Grabbles feature a super cute art style, but it is packed with innovation. Players use both analogue sticks to stick out their feelers independently and "grab" on to platforms and surfaces in order to propel themselves through the game. However, it's not just the central mechanic which injects the innovation into this new title from the developers Noble Whale. They've also included something which is rare on the Xbox One platform these days (asides from a tiny number of other indie titles such as Chariot) which is local multi-player nestled in cozily alongside the online version.
The way the multi-player will work is that others will be able to join your game and battle you for grabbing supremacy. This creates a whole new layer of competitive gameplay for you to enjoy, and also gives the game a level of replay-ability which many games lack. However, if you are a solitary hermit like me, who shuns all kinds of multi-player gameplay outside of the Super Smash Bros. series, then you will be ecstatic to hear that there is also a solo story mode which you can play through by yourself at home surrounded by empty Cheetos packets.
If you have read nothing and are just looking at the pretty pictures here's the gameplay trailer for you to look at for yourself:
