Warner Bros has announced that the Gotham Knights PS4 and Xbox One releases have been canceled. A new gameplay trailer for heroes Nightwing and Red Hood shows only the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S logos for consoles, and the studio confirmed there would be no last-gen launch in a press release.

Why have the Gotham Knights PS4 and Xbox One releases been canceled?

Back in March, Warner Bros revealed the Gotham Knights release date, with the co-op action RPG launching for current-gen and last-gen consoles (as well as PC) in October. However, we now know that the Gotham Knights PS4 and Xbox One versions won't be happening. In a press release, Warner Bros says that in order to "provide players with the best possible gameplay experience", the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game have been canceled. Naturally, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, as well as the PC version, aren't affected by this change.

News of the Gotham Knights PS4 and Xbox One cancellation was unveiled alongside new Red Hood and Nightwing gameplay.

As well as news of Gotham Knights' last-gen cancellation, Warner Bros also unveiled a new gameplay trailer showing off some of Red Hood and Nightwing's gameplay. As you might expect, Nightwing fights in an agile and acrobatic fashion, and he uses his aerial glider to get around Gotham City. Red Hood, meanwhile, has a more brutal and direct fighting style, using his twin pistols to devastating effect. He'll be able to utilize his bike and grappling hook to get around the city, leaping from point to point with what looks to be a mixture of Batman and Catwoman's traversal abilities from Arkham City. Notably, the trailer doesn't reveal four-player co-op, which many people expected to see announced after rumors suggested it would be added. You can check out the full trailer, which goes into much more detail about both heroes, right here.

What is Gotham Knights?

Gotham Knights is a co-op action RPG set in the Batman: Arkham universe. Originally announced in 2020,  There will be four playable characters: Red Hood, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin, and you'll be able to play in solo mode or alongside another hero in co-op. Together, the Bat-Family must investigate the mysterious Court of Owls, a new criminal underworld that has appeared in the wake of Batman's death. As Warner Bros has already revealed, it won't just be the Court of Owls opposing the Bat-Family, though; you'll also have to take down other villains, using your detective skills to figure out what they're up to and stop them before it's too late.

Gotham Knights will star Red Hood, Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl as playable characters.

You'll be able to grab Gotham Knights on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 25th. Alongside the new gameplay, Warner Bros also revealed the game's pre-order bonus incentives, including the first piece of Gotham Knights DLC. Pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition will net you the Visionary Pack DLC, which contains exclusive gear, skins, cosmetics, and more. If you pre-order the Collector's Edition, you'll get the full Deluxe Edition of the game, as well as an extra AR collectible pin, a media book, a Gotham City map, and a four-character diorama statue, plus more. Any pre-order will get you an exclusive 233 Kustom Batcycle skin, too, which you can see in this rather nifty trailer. Be sure to go pre-order the game if you want any of these fun goodies.
