Though the game has been available on PC since November of 2020, the developers at Bounding Box Software announced the Prodeus console release today. This means that fans of the gorey DOOM-like game can now join in on the PC fun via their console.
Prodeus is a first-person shooter that gives off that wonderful DOOM vibe from the second you start the game. The hectic and stress-inducing background music, the horrific enemies that sprint at you like Bladerunner, and the blood-spilling, head-crunching gore that fans of these types of games look for. The game has been in early access for quite some time, and as it finally leaves that stage it will also be ported to consoles. The release is set for September 23, 2022, and the game has been so well received by fans, people are absolutely pumped about the old-school FPS hitting more platforms.
Prodeus sets itself apart from other FPS due to the sheer experience of the team behind it. The creators of the game, Michael Voeller and Jason Mojica, have over 25 years of experience between the two of them within the FPS genre. The game also includes music from Andrew Hulsh, who just so happened to compose the music for DOOM Eternal, which is why that DOOMY vibe is heavy within the gameplay itself. It truly keeps your blood pumping and causes that very familiar sinking feeling as you traverse the levels.
From the mouths of the devs themselves, they state that "This is the Boomer Shooter you’ve been waiting for", and that could not be more accurate. We get the visuals that we remember from way back when, pixelated and retro, seamlessly blended with today's more modern 3D style of graphic quality. The devs even state that with the low-fi over-the-top explosions you will also have high-quality particle effects of blood spatter and explosions upon contact that really give the game that final push into mayhem.
More so, the game is filled with literal non-stop action and painting the walls red with the blood of your enemies. One after the other, like sheer chaos, enemies will come in and try to rip your player to pieces. Luckily, with the game's demented and twisted dismemberment system, you can beat the enemies to the punch and absolutely obliterate them. Want to wreak havoc on your enemies with friends? Well, with the multiplayer modes, you can! The game includes a 4-player co-op, a 16-player deathmatch mode, a Team Deathmatch mode, as well as custom game modes to truly raise the bar.
Prodeus is set to release on consoles such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox on September 23, 2022, but is currently available to play in early access via Steam.
