Tequila Works took the stage on Google's GDC confrence to talk about Rime. One of the most unique features of the game was its art style, which simply looked lovely. Now it seems Google wants to make it much easier to make a unique art style while using the Google Stadia.

This process is called Style Transfer ML. Google showed off an untextured game, and placed pictures next to it. Using a machine learning process, the game would automatically load up textures from the picture into the game. For example, by using the famous Starry Night picture the untextured game suddenly looked like the picture. A particularly amusing example was also shown using a screenshot from the famous Pac-Man.

Google also used furry art. I question why they had furry art on hand for this, but you do you Google.

While its yet to be seen how many games will actually use this new technology, it's impressive to see.
