God of War PlayStation 5 Update

Kratos is making a state visit to Sony's next-generation console with the God of War PlayStation 5 update. This new update will allow God of War, a title part of the PlayStation Plus Collection for PS5 PS Plus subscribers, to take advantage of the hardware in a way it never could before.

What is God of War Enhanced Performance Experience?

Previously, God of War had players choose between two graphics mods on PlayStation 4 Pro - one version that favored performance, and another that favored resolution. Now, Enhanced Performance Experience will allow players to have the best of both worlds. When using this mode players will have the opportunity for a 60 FPS, 4k resolution - albeit one that makes use of checkboard rendering techniques, much like how the PlayStation 4 Pro's "favor resolution" did.

As a bonus, if you prefer the original 30 FPS, or feel that the 30FPS/4K ended up with better visuals for whatever reason (perhaps the folks at Digital Foundry will tell us more about this soon), that option is still available to you and is titled Oiringal Performance Experience.

What it isn't however is a full-on redo. There's no mention of ray-tracing, improved dualsense usage, or other features that help define Sony's newest console for the God of War PlayStation 5 update. Thus while it seems somewhat like the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ray Tracing 60FPS update, it is important to note that it doesn't add Ray Tracing. It also isn't a remaster like Marvel's Spiderman Remastered. That's not to say that it isn't a welcome sight, but more to set expectations to a fair level for it. What you are getting is the best version of the game released, but it isn't a major overhaul for the new hardware.

If you're wanting to see Kratos in all ray-tracing, all signs point to us having to wait for God of War: Ragnarok when that comes out.

Does the God of War PS5 Update make you want to revisit the game? Is 60FPS/4K what next-generation means to you? Let us know in the comments below!
