Asmodee Digital has announced that Gloomhaven, the digital adaption for the acclaimed board game, will commence its Early Access on July 17. There was also a four-hour Twitch gameplay reveal, which you can visit here.
As the highest rated game of all time on BoardGameGeek, Gloomhaven has a lot to live up to. For the curious, Gloomhaven is a digital board game adaption of the board game of the same name that is a mixture between a turn-based tactical RPG and dungeon crawler. The player leads a group of 2-4 mercenaries that must tackle unforgiving missions in randomly generated dungeons. With over 60 unique abilities per mercenary, Gloomhaven offers a lot of content.
If the player survives enough missions, they will receive the opportunity to upgrade their mercenaries' abilities and gear. The player will also be able to hire new mercenaries. The player will need to do this in order to survive bandits, beasts, demons, and anything else that stands between the group and their objective.
There will also be a Roguelike mode for the player to try, along with new biomes, characters, enemies, features, and a new cooperative mode that will arrive after the Early Access launch.

I've always been interested in this game, but the $140 price point has always kept me back. That's not even considering the amount of time needed to set the game up, the physical space, and the friends I would need to gather in order to have a good time. With the much cheaper and easily accessible digital version, I'm probably going to get it because I'm a sucker for dark and slow RPG's. Seriously, since its launch, the board gaming community has gone nuts over this game. Hopefully, the cooperative mode will come soon so I can see what all the fuss is about.
