A Genshin Impact beta tester was reportedly fined approximately $78,000 due to a leak of unreleased content associated with his user ID.
Things have been a bit up and down for Genshin Impact as of late. The recent release of Update 2.4 and the announcement of a GeForce Now release are surely welcomed by some fans, but things aren't going so hot for Chinese players; recently, Mihoyo had to censor some of its characters in China to comply with new government regulations. One Chinese player, in particular, has had an especially bad day -- he's reportedly been fined approximately $78,000 due to a leak from a beta test.
A Huge Cost for Genshin Impact Beta Tester Leaks
As highlighted on Reddit, a Genshin Impact beta tester reportedly showed some beta content to a friend. According to the conversation translated by a Redditor, that friend subsequently released the images online with the beta tester's user ID visible in the images.
It apparently didn't take Mihoyo too long to find out. As a result of the leak, the player says he was fined around CNY¥500,000 -- approximately USD$78,000. Additionally, his account has been banned from the game for six months. The fine is reportedly due to a penalty clause in an NDA signed by the tester.
It certainly sounds like a believable story, but it's difficult to confirm this independently as there isn't much in the way of verifiable evidence. We've reached out to Mihoyo for comment and will update this article when we receive a reply. For now, you can play Genshin Impact for free on PC, PlayStation, and mobile devices via its official website and enjoy all of the cool new content introduced in 2.4.
