Mihoyo has revealed the Genshin Impact 2.5 release date. Titled "When the Sakura Bloom", this update adds a new event in Enkanomiya, as well as a continuation of the Raiden Shogun's story and a new five-star banner in the form of Yae Miko.

What can we expect from Genshin Impact 2.5?

After Genshin Impact 2.4 added two new characters, the 2.5 update is bringing one more in the form of Yae Miko. She's an Electro Catalyst wielder who can provide passive damage while she's off the field and high burst damage if you're fighting with her. Mihoyo says the first Genshin Impact 2.5 banner with the five-star Yae Miko drop will be available in the "early stage" of the 2.5 update, and you'll also get Raiden Shogun and Sangonomiya Kokomi banners later on as well.

Yae Miko is the new character in the upcoming Genshin Impact 2.5 update. She's a high-damage Electro Catalyst user with plenty of party utility.

As well as Yae Miko, you're also getting a new exploration challenge in Enkanomiya. Once you enter an area of darkness, you'll be beset by a corrosive debuff, but you'll get a new gadget in the form of the Bokuso Box to help you stave off this corruption. The Box will also be used to gain new abilities and defeat monsters. Anything you do in these areas, whether it's opening chests, unlocking Waypoints, or completing exploration objectives, will net you experience for the Bokuso Box. Mihoyo says there are "rich rewards" up for grabs as part of this event, including Primogems and a new 4-star Oathsworn Eye catalyst weapon.

Of course, there will also be plenty of new story content and enemies to take on. The Raiden Shogun story quest will get a continuation in Genshin Impact 2.5, and you'll be able to take on the new Shadowy Husk enemy family, which has several variants you'll need to think carefully to overcome. Genshin Impact 2.5 is also giving you the opportunity to create your own Domain, which other players can then take on if they so choose. It's going to be a packed update, so be sure to set aside some time to check out all the new content.

When is the Genshin Impact 2.5 release date?

You'll be able to check out the latest update for Mihoyo's open-world gacha RPG pretty soon. The Genshin Impact 2.5 release date is February 16th, which gives you just a little under two weeks to wait. Mihoyo is also teasing content for the new Genshin Impact 2.6 update, which will feature an area in Liyue known only as The Chasm. It'll be an "all-new map addition", according to Mihoyo, although we don't yet know what we can expect from it in gameplay terms. Just make sure you're not trying to datamine information about it, or you could be hit with a hefty fine.

As well as new content for Genshin Impact 2.5, Mihoyo is also teasing this Chasm concept art for Genshin Impact 2.6.

You can download and play Genshin Impact right now for free on PC, PlayStation consoles, and mobile devices. A version of the game is also in the works for Nintendo Switch, and if you don't quite have the hardware for the game, there's a beta version of it for the Geforce Now streaming platform, too. We'll have more for you on Genshin Impact, including a potential rundown of the content coming in the 2.6 update, as soon as we get it.
