When Cliff Bleszinski stepped down from the Gears of War franchise, it was Rod Fergusson who took over as the face of the series. Now, after 15 years working with the Xbox staple, Fergusson is moving on to oversee the Diablo franchise at Blizzard.

Fergusson announced his departure from The Coalition, the current developer for Gears of War, today on Twitter. He will move on to shape the future of Diablo, with Diablo Immortal and the fourth entry of the acclaimed action series under his guidance. See blow for Fergusson's Tweet:

Fergusson began his career at Epic Games, the original developer of the Gears of War series. There, he held important chief positions overseeing the development of the franchise, along with Cliff Bleszinski. Fergusson became the head of the Xbox Games Studios subsidiary The Coalition in 2014, which is dedicated to developing the Gears series.

Under his development belt is all Gears of War games, as well as other Epic titles such as Bulletstorm and the Infinity Blade series. Right now, it's not known who will take Fegusson's place, but we know that the future of the Diablo franchise is in the hands of an experienced developer known for bloody, gritty games that many have come to love.

Quick Take

This is an extremely interesting move on Fergusson and Blizzard's part. Blizzard is having a lot of PR issues now, what with the shoddy Warcraft 3 Remastered launch and the entire fiasco with Diablo Immortal. It's smart to bring an outsider of the company to someone more "in tune" with the audience. I have no doubt that Fergusson will excel in his role. The next question is, who will be the next face of the Gears franchise, and what's next for The Coalition?
