The Gears 5: Hivebusters expansion has been revealed, showing players what they'll get to enjoy as the next piece of premium content in the latest Gears of War game.
Gears 5 has been providing players with some pretty neat updates since launch. Although there have been a rare few pieces of premium content like The New Day DLC characters, most of this content has been free. Now, the game's first premium expansion has arrived — and it also happens to be included for free with Xbox Game Pass.

What's New in the Gears 5: Hivebusters Expansion?
The Gears 5: Hivebusters expansion will feature Lahni, Keegan, and Mac, three heroes who were first introduced in the Gears 5 Escape Mode. This trio of tough warriors is trying to take down a hive, and it's up to you (and up to two of your friends) to help them get the job done!
Players can enjoy a new 3-hour campaign set on the volcanic Galangi Islands. You'll have to deal with the Swarm, naturally, along with a terrifying new enemy. This expansion will, of course, have all of the neat Xbox Series X|S optimizations that have already debuted for Gears 5; you can read more about the expansion in the announcement.
Learn the Backstory with the Gears 5: Hivebusters Graphic Novels!
Aside from featuring in Gears 5 Escape Mode, the Scorpio Squad also stars in a series of graphic novels. All give issues were authored by Kurtis Wiebe, the creator of the Rat Queens comic series. While there are still a few days to go for the expansion, you can pick up all five issues of the graphic novel right now at just $1.99 a pop on Kindle or Comixology:

When is the Gears 5: Hivebusters Release Date?
The Gears 5: Hivebusters expansion release date is December 15, 2020 — that's next week! You'll soon be able to enjoy this brand-new adventure featuring some of the coolest Gears of War side characters we've seen in recent years.
You'll be able to enjoy this expansion by buying Gears 5 via its official website for $39.99 or your regional equivalent. You might want to wait, though — the Gears 5: Game of the Year Edition is also making its debut next week and it will let you get some neat goodies for a total price of $59.99 including the Hivebusters expansion, a Halo: Reach character pack, and 30 days of boost.
You can also get the Gears 5: Hivebusters expansion included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate; new customers can get their first three months for just $1 (and $14.99/month after that). If you need to refresh your existing membership, you can extend Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in 1-month and 3-month increments.
