The Bloodless Bloodstained Update has arrived, adding yet another playable character to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is an "Igavania," a class of Metroidvania done in the style of Koji Igarashi. Igarashi is a man well-familiar with the Castlevania franchise, having been involved in the upper echelons of several iconic titles including Symphony of the Night. That experience was used to create Bloodstained, and now the game has gotten a brand-new update that adds a third playable character.

Who is Bloodless in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night?

Bloodless is a boss in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night that's somewhat difficult to get to. She can be found in the upper area of the Dian Cécht Cathedral, although players won't be able to reach this area unless they've progressed a ways into the game.

As with many other characters, she also makes an appearance in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon as the boss of Tragedy of Slaughter. Players who have fought her either time know that she can be a challenging opponent; now, you'll be able to wield her powers right from the beginning of the game thanks to a new update.

How to Play the Bloodless Bloodstained Update

You can play as Bloodless in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night simply by starting a new game and changing the character name to BLOODLESS. (Do note that her name must be in all caps or it won't work.) Once the code is entered, a special sound will play and she will be revealed as a playable character.

The Bloodless Bloodstained Update adds the game's third playable character, the others being the protagonist Miriam and the demon hunter Zangetsu. Most interestingly, she was not part of the game's content roadmap — Bloodless is being added to the game as bonus content as thanks for players' patience with the post-launch development process. This update also adds "significant improvements" to the Randomizer, some of which prevent the creation of invalid seeds.

You can play as Bloodless in the game right now, even if you haven't beaten the game or encountered her boss fight. If you haven't yet already jumped into this great Metroidvania, you can buy Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night via its official website starting at $39.99 or your regional equivalent.
