Geoff Keighley has revealed the date for the 2023 Gamescom Opening Night Live ceremony, which kicks off the annual Gamescom event. The ceremony will be held on August 22nd and will be streamed live from Koelnmesse in Germany, so you don't need to worry about this one being canceled.
Earlier today, Keighley tweeted the confirmation that Gamescom Opening Night Live will be returning this year. In his tweet, Keighley bids fans to "get ready" and says he's "excited" to be returning to Cologne in order to share the latest news from the industry.
Of course, we don't know what's going to be revealed at Gamescom ONL 2023 yet. Reveals from previous years' shows include Volition's Saints Row reboot, Marvel's Midnight Suns, and a release date for Halo Infinite, and that's just in the 2021 showcase. Suffice it to say that Gamescom ONL is usually a place where you'll hear some pretty big announcements.
Keighley's announcement comes during widespread uncertainty regarding major gaming events like this. Following several high-profile companies pulling out of the event, E3 2023 was canceled last month, with various studios opting to host their own presentations or to show off their upcoming games during Summer Game Fest instead.
As far as we know, the future of Gamescom Opening Night Live was never in jeopardy, but it's nice to have it confirmed, at any rate. Of course, a lot could change between now and August, but it looks like Keighley is confident the event will be going ahead. Summer should still be a pretty good time for new game announcements and reveals.
Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023 is scheduled to air on August 22nd. The event itself is taking place in Germany, but it'll almost certainly be streamed as well, so you should be able to catch it no matter where in the world you are.
