Good news, everyone! Geoff Keighley has announced that The Game Festival will be returning once again, and it's arriving much sooner than you might think — another edition of his special game preview event will be arriving in the summer of 2020.
If you're unfamiliar with The Game Festival, it's a special event that made its debut during last year's The Game Awards. Essentially, it was like a virtual convention of sorts; players at home could download demos of games on Steam.
Being able to play demos isn't necessarily special, but these games were. You see, the majority of titles available during The Game Festival haven't yet been released. This gives players the opportunity to get the "convention experience" of checking out in-development games from the comfort of their home.
Now, The Game Festival will be making its return once again. Geoff Keighley made the announcement on Twitter.
"I'm excited to share that [The] Game Festival will return this summer on Steam[,]" Mr. Keighley stated in a tweet. "Much more news will be coming soon about my plans for the Summer -- an entirely new way for us all to gather and celebrate gaming in these uncertain times," he continued.
It should be noted that this will be the third time that this event is taking place within the space of a year. We can't say for sure, but it seems that Geoff Keighley may be aiming to make this a quarterly event. It's possible that we may see yet another Festival in Fall with another one after that around the time of The Game Awards 2020.
When is The Game Festival Summer Edition Happening?
Now that we know we're getting another edition of this event, when will it be taking place? You'll be happy to know that it won't be a super-long wait — The Steam Game Festival Summer Edition will run from June 9–June 14, 2020.
It should be noted that this will also be happening right around the time that E3 2020 was supposed to take place from June 9–11, 2020. Since E3 2020 was officially canceled a few weeks ago, this will probably be the best chance for players to try out some brand-new games.
You can set a reminder for the Summer Edition of The Game Festival on Steam. One should note that this page falls under the "sale" category, so we may see some kind of discounts made available as well. Developers who are interested in applying for this event can also do so via the same page.
