Far Cry goes post-apocalypse by officially announcing Far Cry: New Dawn at The 2018 Game Awards.
New Dawn shows off a different take on Montana, one filled with a Mad Max-style world of survival. Two primary characters shown are twins named Mickey and Lou, who monologue the "new world order" by threatening survivors in their home. Both seem to be the primary antagonists, leading a bunch of raiders known as the Highwaymen, who invade Hope County to take what they need from the survivng residents above ground.
The trailer itself, featuring a ton of colorful vistas of a Montana overgrown with lush green pastures, with the game set seventeen years after the bombs fell. The passage of time shows with derelict buildings dotting the landscape, overtaken by weeds and flowers.
Many features from Far Cry 5 return, from derelict vistas of Montana, to recruiting dogs and even large mutated boars as your fangs for hire against roving bands of raiders. Other scenes from the trailer include drag racing, para-jumping, and even customizable, "junk" style weaponry that looks cobbled together to defend yourself from the dangers of the world.
One new feature, hinted at in the trailer, is the homebase, named Prosperity. Prosperity serves as the stronghold for the survivors of Hope County, where they will craft weapons and vehicles to take on the Highwaymen, and upgrade Prosperity to fend them off from attack. New Dawn is also go beyond Montana, with the help of Expeditions, a feature launched from the homebase which can send survivors to various locales across the former United States.
The trailer ends, however, with Joseph Seed bathed in shadow, monologuing how he brought the world to its end, but it did not go as he planned, meaning Seed likely has some plans of his own against the pretenders on the surface.
