The developers behind ABZÛ, Giant Squid Studios, has revealed the next game they're working on: The Pathless. The game is set for a 2019 release and will be published by Annapurna Interactive.
The Pathless has an art style that looks similar to ABZÛ, but the gameplay looks more dynamic, action-oriented, and combative. Players take control of the Hunter as she traverses the watercolor-shaded world. The trailer shows off a shot of her launching arrows at a giant red beast, and in another clip, she jumps off a cliff to hang onto her eagle companion.
In The Pathless, the Hunter is sent to a mystical island in order to lift a dark curse that plagues the world. Part of that quest involves purifying the cursed spirits of the island, one of which is likely the aforementioned red beast.
Aside from the trailer, not much has been announced for Giant Squid's newest game. It's worth noting that aside from ABZÛ, studio founder Matt Nava has also worked on the game Journey during his time at Thatgamecompany. Despite the more calm vibes of the previous games he's worked on, The Pathless looks to have more intensity as the protagonist travels through a strange forest.
The Pathless is set for a 2019 release on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC via the Epic Games store.
