Hilariously offensive SHMUP Freedom Finger has a bit of an issue with family friendliness, namely that the ship is a giant middle finger and some of the characters swear like sailors. That's why the developers are announcing a Freedom Finger Censored Mode so that everyone can enjoy the gameplay without worrying about a nearby toddler developing a potty mouth.
In Freedom Finger, players take on the role of rookie pilot Gamma Ray. Scientists from the moon have been captured and it's up to you rescue them with a ship that looks like a gigantic flying middle finger for some reason I've yet to understand. Players will fly through side-scrolling levels, shooting enemies to the tune of some pretty sick tracks that sync up with the action on the screen.
You'll be able to progress through 36 hand-crafted levels across 12 separate worlds in "batsh*t crazy cartoon action". Freedom Finger features the voice acting talents of Nolan North, John DiMaggio, Eric Bauza, and Sam Riegel. A closed alpha is coming sometime later in August 2019.
Whether or not you're fond of the game's particular brand of humor, you may want to be able to play it in situations where having a giant flying middle finger on the screen and a bunch of swear words flying about might not be the most ideal situation. That's why the developers are introducing the Freedom Finger censored mode to deal with this issue.
When the game is put in censored mode, a silly "Censored" bar will appear over the ship's middle finger. Written and spoken swears will be censored. Hilariously, the spoken words are replaced with similar-sounding words that are very clearly voiced by someone else.
You can see the Freedom Finger Censored Mode in action in the video below. If you'd like to pick up a copy of this game for yourself, you'll have to wait until sometime in the Fall of 2019. In the meantime, you can add this game to your wishlist on Steam.
