Total War: Warhammer - Bretonnia DLC

Rejoice fair maidens and brave knights alike, for the fearless knights of Bretonnia will soon be available as free DLC in Total War: Warhammer.

As reported by the official Total War Twitter account, the new human faction will be available from February 28 to everyone who owns the game, regardless of other DLC bought.

This announcement comes following Total War: Warhammer being this month's free game as part of the Humble Monthly Bundle membership, and should be a boon to any new players brought in as a part of this promotion.

As it currently stands, the Bretonnian faction is playable only as part of the Quick Battle mode. In the Grand Campaign, any playable faction is able to trade and interact with the faction, but direct control is not possible. For the Warhammer-unaware, Bretonnia is defined by its strong adherence to feudal rules, including a definite definition between the peasantry and the knightly orders. Unlike the Germanic-influenced Empire, Bretonnians are very much influenced by knightly fiction and the chivalric tradition. Anyone familiar with the legend of King Arthur will likely find resonance with the faction, thanks to the inclusion of the Lady of the Lake, Grail Knights, and other such figures of mythology and folklore. Expect a Bretonnia playthrough to hinge on the use of large groups of peasant soldiers being used alongside heavy cavalry of many types.

Total War: Warhammer - The Grim & The Grave - Knights of the Blazing Sun
It's like the Knights of the Round Table, only with griffins and the ancestors of space marines.

Free content is nothing new in Total War: Warhammer. The Jade Wizard update was also free, bringing new units and a whole new Lore of Magic. However, the race expansions have more usually been paid DLC, with the release of the savage Beastmen of Chaos and the reclusive Wood Elves both being charged for on release. However, both of those expansions came with their own campaigns, which is not mentioned for the Bretonnians at this time. Regardless, a free content expansion where people usually expect a premium is a nice surprise, and likely one that will bring players back to the game.

The knights of Bretonnia will be available for play in Total War: Warhammer at the end of this month on February 28th.
