A new report claims that Paramount Pictures is already working on a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie, with a view to releasing the film in theaters in a couple of years.

According to Variety, the studio anticipates that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (which is, of course, not necessarily its final title, although it would line up with how Paramount has been titling its Sonic movies so far) will arrive in cinemas sometime in spring 2027.

It's worth noting that Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the latest entry in the franchise's foray into live-action movies, has only just been released itself. It opened today, but as Variety points out, it's expected to do pretty brisk business, with the publication pointing to estimates of "$55 million to $60 million" for the movie's US opening weekend.

Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails lined up for a race in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will reportedly be followed by a fourth movie
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 may only just have come out, but a fourth movie is already in development.

We're moving into spoiler territory for parts of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 right now, so fair warning: if you don't want to know anything about the movie before going to see it, then close this article right now and go do something else. I won't hold it against you!

Right. According to reports, there are, in fact, two post-credits scenes in the third movie. The first features none other than Sonic's longtime companion and sometime begrudging romantic interest Amy Rose, as well as a cameo appearance from Metal Sonic.

The second teases what happened to Shadow, played by Johnny Silverhand himself, following the events of the movie. This could be a setup for a sequel movie, a tease for a spinoff series akin to Knuckles, or just a nice little bow to wrap up the events of the story.

In any case, if those mid- and post-credits reports are correct, Amy and Metal Sonic seem like shoo-ins for Sonic the Hedgehog 4

With Paramount keeping details of the fourth movie's story (as well as its casting and creative personnel) close to its chest for now, we'll have to wait and see whether this is the case or not.

For the time being, though, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is in theaters right now. It's even got one of the series' most iconic songs in it, although that song is also currently the subject of a lawsuit being filed by Crush 40 vocalist Johnny Gioeli.
