A total of four new Steamworld games are in development at Thunderful. Three new codenamed games have been revealed in the company's latest financial report -- and three of these four new games are expected to launch next year.
The Steamworld games are perhaps best know for platformers such as Steamworld Dig and Steamworld Dig 2, but the franchise hasn't been afraid to explore different styles of gameplay. The latest Thunderful financial report has been revealed -- and it shows that there are four new games in the Steamworld franchise on the way, each of which will be in a different genre.
What We Know About the Four New Steamworld Games
Thus far, we've only truly seen the first of the four new Steamworld games: Steamworld Headhunter will be a third-person action game and it looks like an interesting premise based on its teaser trailer. Now, it looks like that's not all that's coming from the Steamworld universe -- here's what we know about the other three new Steamworld games according to Thunderful's new financial report [PDF] (via IGN):
- Codename "Strawberry" - A puzzle game based in the Steamworld IP, planned for 2023.
- Codename "Coffee" - A City-builder game set in the Steamworld IP, also planned for 2023.
- Codename "Caramel" - A turn-based tactical shooter and strategy game in the Steamworld universe, targeting a 2024 release.
If Thunderful can manage to keep to its schedule, this would mean that we'll get to play the third-person action game Steamworld Hunter, the city-builder codenamed "Coffee," and the puzzle game codenamed "Strawberry" in 2023. Whatever "Caramel" is, we'll have to wait until 2024 to play it.
Hopefully, these new games will do well for Thunderful; that same fiinancial report notes that sales for Lost in Random, Wavetale, and The Gunk have been "disappointing." You can get the latest games in the Steamworld franchise (and check out other projects, too) on Thunderful's website.
