There are few safe bets that you can make these days, but you can almost always rely on Epic Games to update Fortnite on a regular basis. With the V.3.0.0 update, Fortnite enters its third Battle Pass season, bringing a plethora of new cosmetic microtransactions to the game alongside a number of more free features that everyone can enjoy.
Chief among these new features is a series of audio and visual options that are designed to enhance your Fortnite experience. Console players on the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X will have the option to play the game at 60 FPS, finally giving everyone an equal opportunity to complain about frame rate drops and whatnot whenever they die in Fortnite Battle Royale. Additionally, if you happen to be color blind, Fortnite now has an "Experimental Color Correction" option that can be found in the game's Accessibility tab which, as the name suggests, is still in development and requires feedback for fine-tuning. If audio updates are more your tune, then you may be happy to hear that a new hour-long orchestral score has been added to the game, created by film composer Marco Beltrami (Logan, The Hurt Locker, etc.) and Pinar Toprak (Krypton TV series, additional composition for the Justice League film, etc.).
Fortnite V.3.0.0 brings a number of more practical changes to the game as well, for those who care exclusively about the gameplay features. If you're lucky, you may run across the new Hand Cannon, an aptly named Epic/Legendary quality high caliber pistol that fires Heavy ammo. Additionally, Hoverboards have been added into the Save the World mode (in other words, you won't be able to find a Hoverboard if you only play Battle Royale) giving players a chance to explore areas without the risk of tiring.
Naturally, some gameplay tweaks made their way into the V.3.0.0 update, though they're not as big as one may expect. Most notably, grenades can no longer do critical damage, pump action shotguns will actually require you to pump the shotgun if you switch between it and another weapon too quickly, the Crossbow will no longer have the Valentine's day skin, and Pistols have had their drop rates adjusted as follows:
- Increased Uncommon Pistol by 25%.
- Increased Rare Pistol by 100%.
- Decreased Epic Suppressed Pistol by 33%.
- Decreased Legendary Suppressed Pistol by 20%.
Fans of Fortnite's PvE Save the World mode will also be getting quite a number of new features, including the Spring it On! event chapter (Lunar New Year themed event with a Dragon Weapon reward at the end of the quest line), a new Valentines Day themed Hero appropriately named Valentines Ninja Snuggle Specialist Sarah, and a small number of gameplay tweaks that are, among other things, designed to speed up the game's material harvesting rates by up to 20%.
A number of smaller bug fixes and minor gameplay tweaks are also contained in the Fortnite V.3.0.0 update, a list of which can be found on Epic's site.
