V-Bucks in Fortnite

Epic Games is slashing up to 20% off V-Bucks and real-money purchases in Fortnite across all platforms. The company stresses that this sale - which it's calling the Fortnite Mega Drop - isn't temporary and constitutes permanent discount prices, available anytime. If you're on mobile, you'll need to use Epic's new direct payment system to avail yourself of these discounts.

What does the Fortnite Mega Drop mean for players?

Epic is introducing these discounts partly as a way to promote its new proprietary direct payment system on mobile platforms. On iOS and Android, you can now pay for in-game Fortnite content including V-Bucks and other purchases directly through Epic, instead of processing the payment through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Epic says that as it stands, Google and Apple collect a 30% fee on transactions, but if you pay direct through Epic, that fee will instead partially be passed on to you.

On mobile, the up-to-20% discount for content only applies through Epic direct payment; on PC and consoles, it applies to any V-Bucks or real-money transactions, regardless of which payment method you use. If you don't play Fortnite via the Play Store, you can still take advantage of the discount through the Epic Games app, which you can grab via the official site or the Samsung Galaxy store.

If you purchased V-Bucks or a real-money offer within Fortnite between July 14th and August 13th, you can expect a V-Bucks bonus of 20% of your total purchase amount to be applied to your account by August 17th. As well as this, Epic is giving away the in-game Shooting Starstaff Pickaxe for free in order to commemorate the introduction of its new payment system. If you want more details about the system, you can check out Epic's direct payments blog. It's worth noting that right now, not every territory and currency is supported by Epic. Make sure to take a look at the list of supported countries to check whether yours can take advantage of direct payments yet.
