Insanely popular battle royale game Fortnite has managed to rack up 2 million players on Nintendo Switch within its first day of release.
The game was originally announced for Nintendo's console during the company's E3 2018 conference. Fortnite was made available via the eShop pretty much immediately after its announcement, and very quickly started racking up downloads.

Of course, the game is ridiculously popular on every other platform. Epic Games recently confirmed that Fortnite has reached over 125 million players across all platforms worldwide. Epic has managed to achieve this within less than 12 months; Fortnite Battle Royale, the most popular iteration of the game by far, was originally released as an Early Access title back in September 2017.
To commemorate the milestone Epic Games also shared more details about its upcoming 2018-2019 competitive season. Epic says they'll be "supporting community organized events, online events, and major organized competitions all over the world".
Back in May, Epic announced that they would be providing the whopping sum of $100,000,000 (yes, that's $100 million) to fund prize pools for competitive events. One of these appears to be the Fortnite World Cup. Qualifiers for the event will begin in Fall 2018, culminating in the first Fortnite World Cup in late 2019. The World Cup will focus primarily on Solos and Duos, so if you're looking to squad up, you'll need to look elsewhere.
Of course, the entire $100,000,000 is not for this single event; the money, according to Epic, will be "split between many events at different levels of competition around the globe". Epic is very keen to keep competition fair, declaring that they "will not be selling teams or franchises". They're keeping a tight leash on third-party leagues, too, and will be disallowing those leagues from selling teams or franchises.
More information on the upcoming Fortnite World Cup will be available soon, including "rules, player codes of conduct, specifics about platforms and the Fall 2018 schedule". We'll bring you more news on this as we get it.
