Polish developer Far From Home has revealed Forever Skies, a new "first-person action survival sci-fi game" where you travel on a blimp above an ecologically-devastated Earth.
Last year closed out on a bang for survival games. Aside from the launch of Dean Hall's latest project Icarus, we got major updates for 7 Days to Die and Project Zomboid. Now, a brand-new sci-fi survival game has been revealed -- here's your first look at Forever Skies.
Forever Skies puts players in the shoes of an as-yet-unnamed scientist who lives on an airship that serves as a home, workshop, and lab. This airship isn't just a vehicle that gets you from A to B; you'll have to manage its hull integrity and improve it with resources you find in the world. Based on early footage, it looks like you'll be able to pilot it in the game world, too.
The world of this game has been terribly polluted, largely by an unknown virus that makes the ground below an uninhabitable wasteland. Part of the inspiration for this title comes from commentary by scientists who have said that the air quality in Krakow, Poland is nearly as bad as some of the most polluted cities in the world.
"The actual inspiration for how to arrange the game’s world into a thick layer of toxic dust and the skies above has been drawn from various comments of scientists on air quality in Cracow, Poland," Far From Home CEO Andrzej Blumenfeld told IGN. "This beautiful, historic city is known for its pollution, regularly competing head-to-head with places such as Beijing, Delhi[,] or Lahore. Apparently, to access breathable air, residents should elevate above 100m...This idea that due to gravity accumulating an increasing amount of particles and toxic gases close to the ground, humanity will have to escape to towers, has been instrumental in designing the game’s premise"
This upcoming survival game is being created by Far From Home, a Polish developer with some pretty impressive veterans in its ranks. Past work from involved developers includes both Dying Light games, Dead Island, The Medium, Chernobylite, and the Divinity: Original Sin franchise.
When is the Forever Skies Release Date?
The Forever Skies release date will be sometime in 2022. Unfortunately, neither a more specific release date nor a price has been announced.
For now, it looks like there's one more impressive survival game that we can look forward to this year. You can add Forever Skies to your wishlist on Steam; you'll also be able to play the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at some point.
