Indie crafting-exploration-grinding-thing Forager has received a free update. Dubbed the "Free Appreciation Update", it brings new content including new modes, a weather system, and more.

First up, Forager has two new game modes. The Single Island Challenge mode tasks players with collecting all of the game's Tools in order to win. The second new mode is Speedrun, in which players must collect all Feats to win. Developer HopFrog plans to add more new modes to the game in future content updates. We're not sure what those modes might be yet, but HopFrog seems like a pretty amenable company. Sending your feedback to them might well give them some ideas.

There's also a new weather system in Forager. At the moment, the weather system simply changes the game's visuals. In the future, HopFrog plans to add gameplay modifiers which will alter the gameplay of Forager based on what the weather is doing. If you're running Forager on an older PC and fear for its memory, don't worry: you'll soon be able to switch the weather effects off if you need to.

That's not all, of course. The Free Appreciation Update also adds a bunch of smaller tweaks and fixes to Forager. Sunrises and sunsets have been improved and there's now a button to auto-sort your inventory. HopFrog says it's added a "ton of new in-game options" as well as some secret options about which the studio is remaining tight-lipped. Losing saves to crashes or shutdowns should now be much rarer. Shrine buffs will now be removed if they can't be used or assist the player, and cosmetic items won't be automatically equipped visually.

The Free Appreciation Update fixes a whole lot of bugs and other stuff outside of these improvements. Check out the full patch notes for more info. As a thank-you for the support Forager has received, HopFrog is also offering the game at 15% off on Steam until Monday. We might not have been huge fans of this one, but that doesn't mean you won't like it. Check out the Steam page if you want to take a look.

Dark Souls changed my life, and I'm here to spread the good news. I like pretty much all sorts of games, but I judge everything by its proximity to our Lord and saviour, Dark Souls.
