In case you needed the latest and greatest in interactive video laxatives, Five Nights at Freddy's 3 is now available for purchase on Steam for 7.99 (USD).
For those not in the know, Five Nights at Freddy's 3 is the latest instalment in the Five Nights at Freddy's series; a point and click survival horror game that pits you against murderous animatronic robots in a fictional Chuck E. Cheese style Pizza Restaurant working as a late night security guard. The aim of the game is to survive a 6 hour shift from 12am to 6am while monitoring the animatronics on video cameras placed strategically around the establishment, making sure they don't find their way into your office.
The games are developed by Scott Cawthon and are notable for their use of 3D pre-rendered graphics, minimalistic presentation, and crazy quick development cycle. It took only 4 months for Cawthon to develop Five Nights at Freddies 3, leading some people to denounce the game on the games subreddit.
While it's easy to write the game off for its infamous jump scares, Five Nights at Freddys' strength is the tension it creates with an approaching threat, rather than the arrival of said threat. The lore behind the game's story as well further adds to its popularity as a series. They are also popular for let's play channels, since most people don't want to play the game themselves, but would rather someone else get scared on their behalf. YouTube celebrity Markiplier's first Five Nights at Freddy's 3 video already has over 1.6 million views in a little over 12 hours.
While Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was a prequel set in an earlier Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, Five Nights at Freddy's 3 is a sequel set in the future, in a horror amusement centered around the spooky events of Freddy and his friends in the previous restaurants, now long shut down.
