Koei Tecmo has revealed that between them, Atelier Ryza and its sequel have shipped over 1.5 million copies worldwide. With a third installment on the way, those sales figures are likely to be reassuring not only to Koei Tecmo, but also to you if you're a fan and you're hoping the series will continue.
This news was announced via the official Koei Tecmo Twitter account. In the announcement tweet, Koei Tecmo says that Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout and its followup, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy, have shipped 1.6 million units. That's pretty impressive for what is, in the end, a fairly niche JRPG series. There's also a rather sweet GIF of Ryza and Klaudia celebrating the achievement together.
If you're not familiar with the Atelier series, here's a quick overview. In essence, it's a series of JRPGs that revolve around alchemy, with gameplay revolving mainly around collecting new alchemy ingredients to improve your recipes and move through the story. As you might expect from JRPGs, the combat is usually turn-based, and you can use many of the items you create to augment your combat ability.
The first Atelier Ryza game was released in 2019, revolving around the titular Ryza and her friends as they decide to explore a forbidden island together. A sequel, Atelier Ryza 2, followed in 2021, once again starring Ryza and taking her all around the world to discover the truth behind a mysterious creature she meets.
There's a third game in the series coming up, too. Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key launches on March 24th for PlayStation, Switch, and PC, having been delayed from its original February release date. Koei Tecmo has been celebrating the game's impending release by posting lots of artwork depicting the game's cast and created by various different artists.
