Gran Turismo Movie close up Archie Madekwe

Today, during Sony's CES press conference from Las Vegas, the house of PlayStation revealed the first trailer of the upcoming Gran Turismo film.

The trailer features a sneak peek of some of the scenes of the movie, alongside commentary from some of the actors that star in it.

We see Archie Madekwe, who will play the role of protagonist Jann Mardenborough, Orlando Bloom, who plays Danny Moore, and David Harbour, who plays Jack Salter. Additional names shared for the cast are Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Djimon Hounsou.

The movie, which will launch exclusively in movie theaters this summer, is directed by Neill Blomkamp of District 9, Elysium, Humandroid, and Demonic fame, who professed his appreciation for the Gran Turismo games on stage during the event.

You can take a look at the video below.

In case you've missed it, the movie is retelling the true story of Jann Mardenborough, winner of the 2011 edition of the GT Academy competition. He then went on to drive in a variety of professional racing championships including the popular Super GT in Japan and many more.

If you're not familiar with GT Academy, it was a TV reality show fruit of a partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment, Polyphony Digital, and Nissan, prompting Gran Turismo players to compete through an elimination format with the objective of becoming real-world racing drivers. It debuted in 2008 and was hosted regularly until 2016.

If you're more interested in games, Gran Turismo 7 is currently available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, and during today's conference, we learned that it will be playable for PlayStation VR2 when it launches in February via a free upgrade.
