The first Dallas Fuel home game has attracted over 9,000 attendees in what is the first step to Overwatch League teams playing outside of the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles County. The Overwatch League's first season had the vast majority of matches played in Los Angeles County with the exception of the finals taking place in New York. The second season is the first time that regular matches will be played elsewhere with at least three home game events planned, and Dallas' event has been wildly successful.
"It felt amazing for us as players. To play in front of a crowd that size on the stage with the roar of the crowd echoing in your ears. This was an amazing experience that as a player I will never forget," said the Fuel's DPS player Dylan "aKm" Bignet in a press release. "We have the best fans in the world."
4,500 fans attended each of the two days of the first Dallas Fuel home game — a completely sold-out event. This certainly goes to show that eSports can deliver attendance numbers. Fans paid for tickets ranging from $35–$145 for single-day seats with additional options for weekend passes with the opportunity to meet and greet the players. 77% of the ticket purchases were made by people residing in Texas.
The Overwatch League has always had plans to move to a more traditional league style of home and away games. The second season of the league is still mostly being hosted in Los Angeles Country, but the third or fourth season is anticipated to see the league moved entirely over to a series of home and away games.
While the Dallas Fuel Home Game has certainly been successful, this won't be the only such event for the second season of the Overwatch League. The new Atlanta Reign will be having their own set of games in July and the Los Angeles Valiant will be hosting homestead games in August. Stayed tuned to the respective social media channels of those teams if you'd like to pick up tickets for their events.
