Have you ever wanted to explore the woods, create a deep connection with a stranger you’ve never meet face to face, and solve a mystery all at the same time? Are you an Xbox One owner who never experienced these sensations when Campo Santo’s Firewatch launched on PlayStation 4 and PC earlier this year? If answered both of these questions with “yes”, then you are in luck.
In a blog post on Campo Santo’s website, the developer announced the Xbox One port of Firewatch launches on September 21. This story-driven adventure game has a heavy emphasis on dialogue choices and exploration.
The developer also briefly touched upon a handful of new features. The first mode being the “Firewatch Audio Tour”, which is described as “one part scavenger hunt, one part museum tour, one part game dev workshop, mixed with a dash of inside Campo Santo goofs”. The pitch makes it seem like some sort of audio commentary as seen in several Valve games.
The second new mode that was announced is a “Free-Roam Mode” which is exactly what it sounds like. Players can explore beautiful woods of the game without story interfering with their adventure. The mode is an opportunity to find hidden secrets and discover the animals hiding throughout the game. It will also feature a full day and night cycle.
These features will be available for free for everyone who purchased the game. They launch on the Xbox One on launch and other consoles at a later date. There is no release date to when these bonus modes will reach PC and PS4. PAX West attendees could check out the developer’s booth to get a hands-on impression of these new features.
