With the release of Metal Gear Solid V just around the corner, Konami today released the official launch trailer for the game.

Before watching, viewers should be aware there are some fairly heavy spoilers in this trailer that start around the 3 minute mark. If you're planning to go head first into Metal Gear Solid V spoiler free, it might be best to duck out of the trailer just before then.

The launch trailer for Metal Gear Solid V shows us (up until the three minute mark) an emotional montage of the Metal Gear Solid series, starting with Metal Gear Solid, moving through the mainline numbered installments, and ending with Metal Gear Solid  Peace Walker. The trailer is as much a celebration of the long lasting success of the series as it is an advertisement for the newest edition. The second half of the trailer shows what fans can expect of the next installment for the series, showcasing an intimidating new boss.

This will be the final Metal Gear Solid trailer directed by Hideo Kojima if allegations that his contract with the company will come to a close in December are true. The release of MGSV comes  after a rumor filled supposed falling out between the famous video game director and the publishing company behind the Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania series. This drama came with several announcements by Konami that were largely met with negative reception, including canceling the Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro Silent Hills game, and announcing a "mobile first" future for the company. Konami also confirmed the Metal Gear Solid franchise will continue without Kojima.

Konami announced today via their blog that Metal Gear Solid V will come with it's own companion app. The app will be available alongside the game when it releases next Tuesday. The app allows players to access Snake's "iDroid" directly from their mobile device whilst playing the game. A similar app released alongside Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The app will show in-game maps (rather than pausing the game to view them on the television screen.) It also will allow players to listen to in-game records and music obtained as they progress through the game. The app is only compatibly with the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and Xbox One versions of the game. However, there are no PC or Xbox 360 versions of the app.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will release September 1st, 2015 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.

Will you be picking up Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain when it releases next week? What are you looking forward to the most? What is your favorite game in the Metal Gear Solid franchise?
