Do you remember when Final Fantasy XV was delayed? That the reason given by director Hajime Tabata was to make sure that there was no day 1 patch so that people with poor internet would get the same, high-quality experience? Well, it had been circling the net that there would be a day 1 patch, and today, Square Enix released a press release that addressed that along with some other points of interest.

Inside the press release, Square Enix gave details about what can be expected in the day 1 patch, called the "Crown Update", among a couple of other matters in the lead up to launch. Beyond the details on the "Crown Update", the press release also included a statement from Hajime Tabata about the copies of the game that have broken street date and how they plan to address that situation and the ensuing spoilers. Finally, they released a brand new Final Fantasy XV 101 trailer that is designed to introduce players to Final Fantasy XV, and what can be found in the game.

First up, here's what you can expect in the "Crown Update" in addition to some bug fixes:

  • "Wait Mode" Ability Tree that aims to give the opportunity for more in-depth strategic choices.
  • Camera Improvements to make it easier to track ongoing action
  • Beast Whistle add, an item that can be used to call monsters to battle
  • A wider variety of recipes and fish, along with a gallery for viewing them
  • Social media support, so you can share pictures Prompto takes on Facebook and Twitter
  • Scenes from the Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV movie and "Omen" trailer are added to make the story and timeline easier to follow.
Tabata's statement basically asks people to be respectful if they have an early copy and not share spoilers from it. He says they will be doing everything they can to stop unauthorized footage from appearing online. Here is the full statement:
“The November 29th release date is approaching and I sincerely hope everyone enjoys this game with a fresh state of mind. Unfortunately, there has been an unauthorized distribution of the boxed edition of FINAL FANTASY XV in select regions and we have noticed that gameplay footage from people playing these copies has appeared online. Though this type of situation is brought on by various region specific circumstances and may not be something that is completely avoidable, we are very regretful of this situation.

One of the major goals of FINAL FANTASY XV is for everyone to enjoy the story and to discover the surprises together through the simultaneous worldwide release. Due to these recent events, videos with unexpected spoilers could potentially be posted online, so we would like to warn everyone who has been waiting in anticipation for this game.

We will also do everything in our capacity to prevent unauthorized footage from appearing online. We would also like to ask anybody that has obtained an early copy of the game to be respectful to those that are looking forward to the official release and to not spoil the surprises for everyone.

A large and dedicated team have worked extremely hard to make this game and to create a FINAL FANTASY that everyone can enjoy. It would be a huge regret for us if the excitement of the launch was to be spoiled for so many when we are so close to release.

Your understanding and cooperation would be much appreciated so we can celebrate the best possible release together.”

Finally, the new trailer shows off characters, mechanics and introduces the game. Take a look at the extended cut version of it here:
