Today Square Enix shared a brief but very interesting gameplay video of the upcoming action JRPG Final Fantasy XVI.
We've seen a lot of the game's hero Clive in action in previous videos, but today the spotlight shines on Torgal, Clive's faithful canine companion. Not only you can give instructions to Torgal and make him fight by your side, but he can even execute combos with Clive's own attacks.
You can check him out in action below.

If you don't know Torgal, here's how he's described officially.
"Another outcast from the Northern Territories taken in by House Rosfield, Torgal was found alone in a snowfield during one of Archduke Elwin's expeditions to the freezing north, and gifted to his sons upon his return. After somehow surviving the disaster that nearly ended the Rosfield line, he was reunited with Clive over a decade later, and now serves his master with the same fierce loyalty he did when he was but a pup."
If you're unfamiliar with Final Fantasy XVI, it's the next mainline game of the ultra-popular fantasy series by Square Enix. Its development is spearheaded by many developers from the Final Fantasy XIV team, which isn't too surprising considering the success of the latest MMORPG of the series, which has recently passed 27 million registered accounts worldwide.
Among them, we have producer Naoki Yoshida, director Hiroshi Takai, writer and creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro, artist Hiroshi Minagawa, composer Masayoshi Soken, and many more.
The game is said to be a darker take on the Final Fantasy concept, while its battle system is fully action-based. Yet, you can expect plenty of traditional concepts from the series including summons and Chocobos.
The scheduled release date is June 22, 2023, for PS5. A PC version is also likely coming at some point, albeit there is no official release date for it at the moment. We also learned that a demo is planned and should come shortly before the game's release.
