It wasn't just the PC release of Final Fantasy XV that was revealed at this years Gamescom as an announcement that surprised many was made in the form of Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition. For those who haven't been able to experience the story of Final Fantasy XV on console yet, this will allow you to play through the entire adventure on your Android, iOS, and Windows 10 devices.

The purpose of the Pocket Edition is to create an experience where players can pick up and put down the game as they want throughout their day. The game will condense the story into 10 different chapters, with the first of those chapters being available for free. To accompany the announcement they also released a trailer for the game showing off a new mobile friendly chibi art style, a few cutscenes mirroring the opening of the console version, and glimpses of battles and travel that you will be taking part in across the world of EOS.

Even the promotional material feels like it's almost a parody...

At this time all we know about the game is what you've seen above with a release date planned for later on this year. If you want to know our thoughts on Final Fantasy XV's initial release then you can do so here.

Quick Take

This is absolutely incredible! This takes the idea of running a game on minimum specs and instead of having it as a negative instead turns it into its own feature. With a non-intensive version does this mean we're going to see Pocket Edition appearing in as many places as Skyrim? Maybe the Switch will be getting it next? It's also great to see what seems like an upgraded DS Final Fantasy engine that the remakes of 3, 4, etc... used.

What do you think of the Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition? Will you at least try out the free chapter? What other platforms do you think this Pocket Edition could release for?
