Final Fantasy XIV, the MMORPG set in the Final Fantasy universe, has removed the 14-day time restriction on trial accounts, as reported by Eurogamer.

Final Fantasy XIV is (unsurprisingly) the fourteenth core game in the Final Fantasy franchise and the second MMORPG (after Final Fantasy XI). The game originally released in a less-than-ideal state; it holds a score of 49 on Metacritic and a User Score of 3.8. After the lukewarm reception, the game's original version went out with a bang - players got to take place in an in-game apocalypse as the digital world ended before it went on hiatus for some serious re-tooling. The efforts of the development team ultimately bore fruit, as the reincarnation (titled Final Fantasy XIV: The Realm Reborn) enjoys a much more respectable score of 78 on Metacritic alongside a user score of 5.7.

Previously, trial accounts for the MMORPG were restricted to a hard limit of 14 days. Now that that limit has been removed, players will be able to take all the time they like to check out what the game's world has to offer and level their characters all the way up to Level 35. There are still restrictions in place, of course, most of which are listed on this support page (which has yet to be updated since the removal of the time restriction). As with many online games, trial players will face restrictions in level, chat, use of the in-game marketplace, and other areas.

Not only has the restriction been removed on all existing and future trial accounts, but Square Enix has gone to the trouble of reviving any accounts that had previously expired due to the time limit running out. If you've played the game before or you're just looking to give it a spin for the first time, you can head on over to the game's official website to load up a free trial account. Console players can get access to the free trial via the PlayStation store.

What do you think of Final Fantasy XIV compared to other MMORPGs out there on the market? Will you go back to an old trial account if it's been revived as a result of the time restriction being removed? Let us know in the comments below!
