Stage plays inspired by video games are fairly common in Japan, but Kabuki performances are a little rarer. Final Fantasy X is getting one.

The performance, simply titled "New Kabuki Final Fantasy X," will happen at the IHI Stage Around Tokyo venue with various shows between March 4 and April 12, 2023. Tickets are going on sale on February 14 and they're priced between 11,000 yen and 32,000 yen (approximately between $84 and $244 at the current exchange rate).

Directed by Kikunosuke Onoe, the show brings back the story of Tidus, Yuna, and their friends and enemy in the iconic style of Kabuki theatre, mixing tradition and modernity.

Below you can check out a trailer featuring Yuna played by Yonekichi Nakamura.

We also get to see a poster featuring all the actors in their beautiful costumes. Among them are famous names like Matsuya Onoe, Nakamura Shido, and many more. And yes, if you're wondering, this is Kabuki, so all characters are played by men, including female characters.

Kabuki is often traditionally associated with luxurious bento boxes, so the production of the performance is collaborating with QG Dish for the delivery of themed bento boxes featuring ingredients selected by the Mitsukoshi Isetan department stores. They're limited edition and you can see what they look like below.

They range from pretty affordable (2,100 yen translates to approximately $16) to quite expensive (7,500 yen is approximately $57).

If you're unfamiliar with Final Fantasy X, it debuted on PlayStation 2 all the way back in 2001, when Squaresoft hadn't yet merged with Enix. It has since shipped 21.1 million copies including the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster.
