FIFA Ultimate Team servers are having problems -- several FIFA 22 players are reporting that they are unable to play this multiplayer mode.
The FIFA games have all sorts of ways to play, but one of the most popular is the multiplayer mode FIFA Ultimate Team. Gamers can acquire football stars through the equivalent of loot boxes (called "packs") and create their own teams to compete against other players. Unfortunately, several players are reporting that this game mode is not working.
What's Happening with FIFA Ultimate Team and FIFA 22?
Several players on social media are reporting that FIFA Ultimate Team is not working for them right now; it looks like the servers might be down.
This is far from the first time that FIFA Ultimate Team had technical problems; FUT matches were temporarily disabled around a year ago due to connection issues. FIFA 21 and FIFA Mobile also had to deal with major server outages in July 2021 and October 2021.
As you can see from the above screenshot, some players are seeing the following error message:
The FUT service is currently experiencing a high volume of server traffic. Please try again later.
The Rising page on the /r/fut subreddit (which is dedicated to FIFA Ultimate Team features around a dozen individual threads filled with upset players who cannot log into the game.
A FIFA 21 player is reporting a similar error message which states:
We are sorry but there has been an error connecting to FIFA 21 Ultimate Team. You will be returned to the FIFA 21 Main Menu.
While this is certainly disappointing (especially at the start of the weekend), it seems that the game's support team is aware of the problem and is currently investigating what's going on.
"We are investigating reports of players being unable to enter FUT and will provide updates in this thread when available," read a Twitter thread from FIFA Direct Communication acknowledging the issue.
Despite these technical issues, FIFA Ultimate Team has had some improvements over the last year, most notably with the addition to preview FUT Packs before buying them. It has also had other problems, however, such as a recently-revealed exploit that makes free kicks surprisingly easy to score.
For now, there's not much to do but wait for EA to fix the problem. In the meantime, single-player is still available for owners of the game. You can buy FIFA 22 for PC and consoles via its official website starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
