Koei Tecmo has released a new Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse remaster commentary. In the video, the remaster's producer and the director of the original game play through one of the spooky photography adventure's stages, discussing some of the changes that have been made in the new version.

The video sees producer Yutaka Fukaya talking with Makoto Shibata, who directed the first Fatal Frame game and also co-directed the original Wii version of Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (alongside Suda51, funnily enough). The two are playing through the Rogetsu Hall stage, which is, according to Shibata, "an abandoned sanatorium where time has stopped".

Throughout the video, Fukaya and Shibata alternate between talking about the changes that have been made in the remaster and some of the inspirations behind the game. We get some fun insights into the development process behind Fatal Frame, including an anecdote from Shibata about a time he was sleeping and "a ghost grabbed [his] hand". You can check out the trailer here. We've included the European trailer, since the one on Koei Tecmo's American YouTube account gets cut off at the end; note that Project Zero is the European name for the Fatal Frame franchise.

Shibata also tells another anecdote in the video about "Mr. Miyamoto", a spirit who apparently visits him in his dreams. According to Shibata, Mr. Miyamoto is wheeling a bandaged person around in a wheelchair, and that person "smells dead already and insects are crawling all over him". Miyamoto-san is apparently the inspiration behind one of the stronger spirits in Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. The video is well worth a watch if you want to know some of the work that's gone into the development of both the original Wii version of Mask of the Lunar Eclipse and the upcoming remaster.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is due out on March 9th. It'll arrive on PC via Steam, as well as on PlayStation consoles, Xbox platforms, and the Nintendo Switch. If you play on a platform where you have Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water save data, you'll unlock a rather fun camera hat for Ruka, and if you pre-order the game, you'll receive a bonus outfit based on Dead or Alive's Marie Rose.
