Farthest Frontier, a medieval city builder from Crate Entertainment that has players struggling to survive in the untamed wilderness, is an indie hit. It joins the ranks of other indie hits such as Cult of the Lamb, which has sold 1 million copies as of last week. Earlier today, Crate Entertainment announced that their second Early Access title has sold 250k copies over the past week, an excellent number that will likely only continue to grow as the game receives more updates.
So far, the game has received a major community update, which provided a big boost to stone and mineral deposits, which is great news for those who were running out of those resources quicker than they would like. If you don't want to struggle, there's a new "Idyllic Valley" map type, perfect for when you don't want to risk running out of resources and just want to have a fun time. There's also a new notification that alerts players when traders arrive and a merchant increase, which sounds pretty useful for when you inevitably run out of resources.

What is Farthest Frontier?
Players will protect and guide their settlers in Farthest Frontier by harvesting raw materials while also hunting, fishing and farming the untamed wilderness. Players will have to maintain soil fertility, avoid heat and frost damage, and do their utmost to build a multi-tiered economy that will last. Maps are randomly generated, but players will be able to specify the amount of water or mountains they want. If players want a more idyllic version of the game, they can turn off features like invaders and disease and play the game as a pacifist.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, Farthest Frontier is currently available as an Early Access title on Steam for $29.99.
