Far Cry Creative Director Leaves Ubisoft, Starts Typhoon Studios

The creative director for such titles as Far Cry, Assassin's CreedSpore and The Sims 2 has officially announced his resignation from the French developer and publisher. This news comes from a post on Alex Hutchinson's personal Twitter account.

Following this announcement, Hutchinson has been hard at work building the foundations for a new studio called Typhoon Studios together with Canadian game developer Reid Schneider. Schneider has also been involved in creating some other high profile games like working on the console versions of Batman: Arkham Knight as well as 2001's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.

The new studio will call the Canadian city of Montreal its home, and both Hutchinson and Schneider are hard at work setting up the new development studio.

[We] probably won't have much to announce in the near future as we hire, build our studio, buy a coffee machine and build Ikea furniture but we are hard at work imagining a brand new world to inflict on all of you, so stay tuned.
Between the two of them, both men have a history working on big budget titles, but their next projects will initially be on a much smaller scale. Because the nascent studio is still getting its bearings as well as employees, you could try scoring an interview if you're from the area. You can do this by using the contact form on the Typhoon Studios website. Currently, they are looking for technical artists, environment artists and gameplay programmers on all levels so you might as well give it a go!

Hutchinson originally quit Ubisoft in January, leaving behind a long legacy of noteworthy projects attached to his name. Apart from the games mentioned above, he was also one of the lead designers on The Urbz: Sims in the City and he was the lead designer of the controversial game Spore.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
