Developer Bad Ridge Games and publisher V Publishing have announced that upcoming fantasy life sim Mirthwood has been delayed by a couple of months.

Mirthwood was originally due to arrive on PC on Wednesday, but it's now set to arrive on November 6th instead, representing a delay of around two months. Time to dig out that old Shigeru Miyamoto quote, I suppose.

Bad Ridge's Daron Otis says that the delay has been put into effect in order to let the team ensure Mirthwood is "the best it can be on day one", which is a pretty difficult goal to argue with, all things considered.

It's going to be a little longer before you can play Mirthwood.

Otis says that the team working on Mirthwood is a "small, passionate" one, and that although the team has worked "tirelessly" to create a world players will love to explore, there are still "key areas" that need to be addressed.

According to Otis, those key areas include "performance optimization, localization, and some of the systems" that power Mirthwood. All of these features need to be given "more attention" prior to launch.

Extra development time will, according to a press release, allow Mirthwood's developers to fine-tune the game, improve its performance, and ensure it's "fully localized for players worldwide", which, again, is a pretty noble goal.

Otis concludes by saying that making Mirthwood's fans happy is "more of a priority than hitting a date", which is a sentiment I think a lot of major triple-A publishers could still learn from.

If you're wondering what Mirthwood is, it's a fantasy life sim that casts you as a refugee from a continent torn apart by war. You must start again in an "immersive medieval fantasy world sandbox" that features plenty of opportunities to explore, trade, and do battle with its inhabitants.

After it launches, Bad Ridge has a post-release roadmap in place for Mirthwood, and it's promising multiplayer, mod support, and family dynamics, plus lots more.

Mirthwood launches on PC via Steam on November 6th. You can wishlist the game right here if you want to keep up with it.
