A fan-made Bloodborne PSX demake has launched, bringing the classic Soulslike game to PC -- albeit with a very different look and feel than you might expect.
The Dark Souls games have a lot of imitators, so much so that the term "Soulslike" was created to categorize them. One of the closest to the original Souls games is Bloodborne, a PlayStation exclusive created by FromSoftware that delivers the same kind of gameplay in a new universe. Now, an enthusiastic fan has completed a project to remake the game on PC with PlayStation 1 graphics.
What is the Bloodborne PSX Demake?
The Bloodborne PSX demake recreates a portion of the PlayStation-exclusive Soulslike Bloodborne with PlayStation 1 graphics, simple as that. It is not, however, a recreation of the entire game.
As PCGamesN previously reported, the creators of the Bloodborne PSX demake planned to take players up to the iconic fight against Father Gascoigne. While the gameplay will certainly be familiar to veterans of this Soulslike, it's not a 1:1 translation, either; the mechanics, maps, dialogue, and graphics will be different than what you experienced in the original PlayStation game.
Bloodborne has had more than its fair share of fan projects and adaptations over the years. An official board game launched roughly a year ago. That aside, the fan community is pretty dedicated, creating an unofficial 60FPS patch for PlayStation and running a community event to celebrate the game's sixth anniversary.
This odd fan project has finally come to fruition as reported on Reddit, and now the work to smash bugs and polish up the rough edges is well underway -- discussions on the game's itch.io page are already reporting several issues that the developers will likely tackle in the coming days.
What's unclear, however, is whether or not this project will stick around for the foreseeable future. FromSoftware has no published policy on fan games as far as I can see, so we can't say for sure whether or not this game will continue to be available.
